Soil Screw Retention Wall System
At Walder Foundation Products, our expert installers use the Chance Soil Screw® for our Alexandria earth retaining walls. An earth retention wall system is used for ground reinforcement and in the construction of gravity walls. The Chance Soil Screw® retention wall system reinforces the soil for projects that require excavations that come close to existing buildings without the fear of jeopardizing the foundation of nearby structures.
In this application, a chance screw anchor is the bearing mode instead of the grouted anchor, which requires friction. This makes our Alexandria earth retaining walls an economical choice. The bearing plates are installed along the length of the soil screw anchors, but are spaced evenly. Once installed, the system is ready for immediate loading.
While our Alexandria Soil Screw® retention system looks similar to tieback anchors, they are very different in how they function. When a wall is restrained with a tieback it is typically built by installing a structural wall facing system, which is bound to the earth with the use of helical anchors. The retaining wall must be structurally sound in order to hold the soil between the tiebacks without bending them.
Chance soil screw anchors®, however are made and applied in a different manner than helical tieback anchors. They are usually placed at a depth that is more shallow than helical tieback anchors. The most important difference between the methods is that the Chance helical soil screw® anchors do not hold tension after they are installed. Instead, the Chance soil screw® retention system holds the soil together creating enough stability for it to be safe for our Alexandria earth retaining wall installations.
